Abstract | When a student or former student dies, the principal should offer more than condolences. Principals can avoid feeling awkward or tongue-tied at the child's funeral by doing some homework (recalling memorable moments with the child); asking teachers for shared memories; considering a home visit, personal note, or phone call; and talking about the child with parents.
